S. West

The name “S. West” is not the name of an individual artist but a pseudonym for a group of artists, perhaps including Victor Shearer and George C. Rohrbach, who painted in a studio located at 1228 Greenwich Street in Reading, Pennsylvania. The studio was located on the “South West corner” of the intersection. The work of this group is deeply influenced by the landscapes of Christopher Shearer.
Another version of the story states: "S. West" is a name adopted by Arthur and Victor Shearer (Christopher Shearer's sons) - both Arthur and Victor worked on this painting - "S. West" is derived from the location of their studio: at the south-west corner of two streets in Reading, Pennsylvania;
