William Lyttleton Savage

William Lyttleton Savage, socially prominent in Philadelphia for many years, and a descendant of a distinguished old Virginia family, died yesterday at his home, 1211 Spruce street, after an illness of five years. He was 76 years old and death was due to a general breakdown.
Mr. Savage was born in this city and his grandfather, Elihu Chauncey, was the first president of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. His ancestors settled in Virginia in 1635. He is survived by a widow, three brothers - Henry, Albert Lyttleton and Charles C., and a sister Mrs. Mary Howell, of Chestnut Hill.
Graduated from Williams College, Mr. Savage went abroad to study languages. Later he studied law at the University of Pennsylvania, and was admitted to the bar in 1885. For some time he was associate editor of the "Weekly Note of Cases," a legal publication. He spent part of each year in travel abroad.
He was a member pf the Philadelphia Club, the University Club of New York and the council of the Society of Colonial Wars. He was also a member of St. Mark's Church of this city."
