Dr. Daniel N. Bertolette

American, 1851 - 1929

Dr Bertolet had a long and honorable career in the United States Navy, and was retired Jan 22, 1913, when he reached the age of 62. His last position was president of the Naval Examination Board, with headquarters in Washington.

Dr Bertolet had a career nothing short of remarkable, and has served with distinction, his official duties carrying him to every part of the globe, under the American flag. His life was full of wonderful incidents, and he was one of the best known and most highly respected members of the Naval Medical Corps. He obtained the rank of Medical Inspector April 5, 1903. He has always claimed Reading as his home.

He was born near Friedensburg, Oley township, Jan 22 1951. When three years of age his parents moved to Reading and in 1866 he was graduated from the local high school, before he was 16 years of age. He was graduated from Jefferson College, Philadelphia, in 1872 and for 18 months was located at the Philadelphia Hospital (Blockley). He entered the Naval Medical Corps in 1873 and served continously for 4O years as a medical officer.

Mr Bertolet has gone wherever he was ordered, and visited many parts of the world, and has seen the Navy grow ninefold.
