Francois Forster
Engraver, lithographer; born at Le Locle (Switzerland), pupil of P. Langlois and L. Robert at the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1813. Worked in Paris, executed 70 large plates, 10 vignettes and work illustrations; President of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1854; died in Paris; bequeathed his entire oeuvre including working proofs to the BN in Paris. His prints feature a round blindstamp with 'F F' initials (Lugt 4623) and oval stamp (noir) (not in Lugt but added to the 'notes' at the end of vol 1); his signature (in pencil) is listed in Lugt ( 941 b)
