Solis was a German draftsman, printmaker, and engraver whose style followed in Dürer’s graphic tradition. He was prolific, producing more than 2,000 illustrations, and operated a large workshop. Solis specialized in book illustrations, including those for Ovid’s Metamorphosis, which was reprinted in many editions throughout the sixteenth century.
