Folinsbee was born in Buffalo and spent time painting in Woodstock, New York with Birge Harrison and John F. Carlson. By 1916 he and his wife moved to New Hope and the artist joined the group of painters including Edward Redfield, Daniel Garber, and Robert Spencer. This winter nighttime landscape still bears the characteristics of Folinsbee’s impressionist works—an interest in light and atmosphere, above all.
