Exhibited at the Annual Exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1909, this dramatic, windswept mountain landscape entered The Museum's collection in 1926. Often referred to as “the American Millet,” Daingerfield's landscapes share an affinity with the French painters of the Barbizon school. Born in North Carolina, the artist moved to New York City to pursue a career as a painter, where he was mentored by George Inness. He maintained a studio in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a constant source of subject matter for the artist.
