One of the best known of the Barbizon painters in France, Corot had a deep influence on the Impressionists and their desire to capture momentary effects in nature. In addition to studio productions, Corot frequently painted out-of-doors, producing small quick studies with special attention paid to light and weather conditions, a practice he explored during tours of Italy. Edgar Degas praised Corot’s abilities, saying, “I believe that Corot draws a better tree than any one of us, but I still find him superior in his figures.”
