This work is a sensitive study of the French countryside with fruit trees and wild flowers. Veron almost exclusively painted landscapes, which he frequently exhibited in the Paris Salons beginning in 1848. Following study with Paul Delaroche, he was influenced by his slightly-older contemporary Charles-François Daubigny and spent much of his time producing landscapes of the Forest of Fontainebleau and Auvers-sur-Oise.
