Wahlberg was a landscape painter from Stockholm who trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. He lived for a time in Germany and was associated with the Dusseldorf school before returning to Sweden in 1862. His work was displayed at the National Museum of Arts and the Paris Salons, where he was awarded medals in 1868 and 1870. This work was most certainly painted in Paris, as the verso of the panel bears a "Paris" stamp.
