Contemplation

Contemplation is a painting that bridges abstraction and realism. The subject matter of steps leading into a swimming pool turned green and murky with algae is painted in a realistic manner, but the cropping and point of view of the composition creates an abstracted image. There is a feeling of watery depth and the illusion of floating created by the leaves.

Usher studied art at the Moore College of Art and Design and completed an MFA at the University of Delaware. She is professor of art at West Chester University in Pennsylvania.
