Lancaster artist Robert Bitts studied art education at Millersville University and has been painting landscapes of southeastern Pennsylvania for the past five decades, alongside his career in the printing industry. A preservationist at heart, Bitts’s sweeping compositions capture the simple beauty of stone, twig, boulder and branch – earthly elements we all see each day, but often overlook. He works in his studios from photographs of creeks and meadows with which he is intimately familiar. The artist notes that he has “been experimenting with size and scale, creating variations on a single scene from near and far.”
