Grobe studied at the Dusseldorf Academy, spending summers in the Dutch fishing village of Katwijk aan Zee, where he painted local scenes of daily life including fishermen, beach scenes and portraits of laborers. He was deeply influenced by the Hague School, especially artists Anton Mauve and Hendrik Mesdag. This work is, no doubt, a Dutch scene of a girl in the famous flower fields of Holland.
