Warren arrived in the United States from England in 1807. He settled in Philadelphia where he exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and spent time creating sets and backdrops for the theater. He documented cities and towns throughout Pennsylvania as early as the 18-teens, including this early view of Columbia along the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County. This autumnal scene shows the low, rolling hills of rustic south central Pennsylvania as it appeared nearly two hundred years ago.
