The name lekythos is derived from the Greek word for oil flask. The lekythos displayed here is painted in the Attic black-figure technique, meaning the silhouette figures are set against the natural orange color of the clay, the black color is derived through firing with the white and red added separately for the details. This example shows a warrior flanked by four men with spears.
