A missal is a liturgical book that encompasses all the instructions and prescribed motions necessary for the celebration of masses and feast day celebrations throughout the year. The missal contains three sections: the temporale, which lays out instructions for the celebration of masses relating to Christ’s life, the sanctorale, which includes the masses for specific saints on their feast days, and the Common of Saints, which outlines celebrations for entire classes of saints, including martyrs, confessors, and apostles.

This English Missal page is for the dedication of a church, including communion and prayers. The Latin text, written in blackletter script, is divided by a gold vertical medial, and ornamented initials mark the beginning of each passage.
