The shape of this helmet was influenced by the Greek pilos (pot helmet) and is also known as a casque or open helmet. Negau refers to the style of bronze helmets, c. 450 – 350 BC, found in 1811 in Ženjak, near Negau, (now Negova, Slovenia). The helmets are of typical Etruscan almond-shape, sometimes described as of the Negau type.
The helmet has a flat ring of bronze and stitching holes along the inside edge fitting an inner cap which held the helmet well up on the head.
