Primarily a landscape painter, who frequently exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Weber was born in Darmstadt, Germany in 1849. As a youngster, in 1853, he accompanied his parents to the United States, where they settled in Philadelphia. His father, a musician and music teacher, was also named Carl; he was the older brother of Paul Weber, a well-known German- American artist who had earlier settled in Philadelphia.
