Peterson, who trained at the Pratt Institute and the Art Students League in New York, later traveled to Europe where she continued to study painting in Paris, London, Madrid and Venice. In Paris, she encountered current trends in modern painting including Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Expressionism. Known for landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, the artist distinguished herself throughout her long career with museum and gallery exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad.
