The food mold is attributed to the pottery in Leesport, Bern Township started by John George Buehler (1815-1887) an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany in 1842.  Known for his fine modeling and unusual glazes, Buehler made mainly household wares and roof tiles, which reflect the influence of earlier Germanic forms.  The pottery was a relatively small operation with few additional journeymen.  His wares were delivered primarily to customers in Reading, Pottsville, and Shoemakersville.
