This item was unearthed in the 1920s or 30s at the excavations of the Kerameikos Cemetery in Athens, Greece. The digs were financed, in part, by Gustav Oberlaender, a German-American industrialist and one of The Museum's early supporters. The museum in Athens dedicated to finds from the Kerameikos Cemetery was named for Oberlaender in 1937.
