Often labeled a “Neo-Impressionist” or “Post-Impressionist,” Luce was introduced to the style by Camille Pissarro. His compositions, including this panel from 1894, enlisted the technique of the separate application of paint for each individual color, as opposed to mixing or blending the colors. Also known as Divisionism and Pointillism, the technique depends on the human eye to “blend” the distinct colors together.
