This half-armor was initially designed to be used for combat on horseback with a lance but the breastplate, which originally would have dipped down lower toward the groin, was cut down at a later date, most likely for ceremonial purposes. The original Comb Morion helmet is of the Pisan type and its height indicates that it was probably ceremonial. Both the armor and the helmet are covered with elaborate Italianate etching.
