Keim was born in 1753 and died in 1823. Persico must have painted her portrait in her final years. The elderly sitter wears a mob cap with a black ribbon. She was born in Oley Township in Berks County and married Captain John Bishop, who was born in Exeter, Pennsylvania in 1740. The couple had six children.
