In addition to being known for their fine glass works, the Swedes have a long history of producing fine ceramic ware. One of their best designers was Carl-Harry Stålhane. Trained as a painter and sculptor, Stålhane's first job at the Rörstrand factory was to paint earthenware. In the late 1940s he was promoted to art director and chief designer and by the 1960s he became the artistic leader for the company. In Sweden Stålhane's name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design, and brilliant craftsmanship.
