Bott was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States when he was in his twenties. He settled in Beaver County, Pennsylvania and is recorded as an artist in the Pittsburgh area for most of his career. He studied at the Academy in Düsseldorf and this work may date from around that period. This idyllic, panoramic view of the Harz Mountains in Northern Germany shows two figures along a mountain lake under blue summer skies.
