A student of Hans Hofmann, Du Casse arrived in the San Francisco Bay area in the mid-1940s, when he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley. In his works of the 1950s and 60s, the artist employed geometry with a painterly, expressionist element. He experimented with many modern styles from loose, gestural abstraction to dynamic, geometric Cubism.
