Born in Philadelphia, Maitin studied art at the University of the Arts and the University of Pennsylvania and received a Guggenheim Fellowship. The artist is primarily known for his exuberant work in printmaking, abstract painting, murals, metal and wood sculpture and three-dimensional collage. This dynamic collage was originally commissioned, with a group of others, to be used as a ceiling tile insert.
