Trained as an architect, Dechant painted the bucolic countryside, always incorporating historic structures into his compositions. The artist received formal training in art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, having served overseas in the First World War. In addition to painting, the artist experimented with etching in the 1920s, focusing on architectural and landscape subjects.
