The size of this horn suggests that it was probably sourced from an African rhinoceros, given that the Chinese rhinoceros were extinct by the end of the Ming Dynasty, in the seventeenth century. The dynamic, open carving depicts berries or grapes and foliate motifs and includes four monkeys on the branches.
