This palette was originally owned and used by Chase and was passed down to his students. Chase gave the palette to Ella Sophonisba Hergesheimer, who gave it to painter William Ferguson, who donated it to The Museum in 1961. Although it is not the same palette pictured in the still life owned by RPM (1931.907.1), it would have been one of the many used by Chase in his daily practice of teaching and painting.
