In this print only a long line of hats viewed from above indicates a daimyo procession making its way through a gorge, overshadowed by a high, patchwork peak. Hakone Lake, with a white Mount Fuji in the distance is seen on the left.

The Hakone Pass was the most arduous stretch of the entire Tokaido. It was steep, difficult to climb, and harbored many roaming bandits. However, the pass abounded in scenic spots and hot spring resorts, which continue to attract many visitors today.
