Cazin’s reputation was made as a landscape artist and, interestingly, as a ceramicist. The artist’s earliest paintings reveal close affinities with the Realist tradition, while his later compositions — mostly views of the northern French countryside — demonstrate an awareness of Impressionism. As evidenced in this painting, the artist was committed to recording the changing effects of light, atmosphere and weather conditions.
